The concerned members told The Zimbabwean that only selected church members belonging to Zanu (PF) were registered, while those perceived to be MDC-T supporters were turned away.
“I have tried to register as a voter but I could not be registered with my four wives and eight of my children who are eligible to vote. We do not know what to do,” said a church member, Isaiah Murimi.
Another member who requested anonymity said: “This is a clear political move. Why is it that those who are in the leadership of the church and known supporters of Zanu (PF) were registered while those perceived to be MDC-T supporters were turned away? That means the exercise was not fair.” Joice Munamati, the Manicaland Provincial Registrar, blamed the lack of resources.
“There were not enough resources. We might have a situation where a man comes with his 15 wives and 40 children wanting to register. In some cases we set aside two or three days at a particular centre so it was difficult to attend to them all.”
