‘Iphupho Lami’ was released two weeks ago in Johannesburg. It speaks out against xenophobia and urges unity among African nationals who have sought sanctuary in South Africa.

“I have lived in both South Africa and Zimbabwe and they are both my homes. I do not like seeing my brothers and sisters fighting among themselves. Africans need to live together in unity,” said the 33-year-old singer.

Mehlokazulu has recorded one previous album, ‘Umakhelwane Wami’ (My Neighbour) in 2012.

The title song of his latest 12-track offering talks about the need for Africans to stop fighting each other.

“You will find a South African Khumalo fighting against a Zimbabwean Khumalo, yet they are both originally from KwaZulu Natal and share the same blood. I am not blaming anyone because this hate comes from both directions, but I stand against all hate crimes. I am not preaching the unity of only South Africans and Zimbabweans, but all Africans because if we unite we can build a better Africa.”

The album also has a song, Omnyama, which speaks against black people fighting one another in xenophobic violence.

Mehlokazulu is in the process of shooting a DVD for his latest album.
