The Zimbabwean star and his South African partner, Bjorn Scheepbouwer, won the International tennis Grade Four event, one of the continent’s prime tournaments after a one-sided doubles final in Johannesburg.

The second-seeded pair was powerful in the straight-set 6-2 6-1 over their South African opponents, Kris van Wyk and Trent Botha, at the Wanderers Sports Club.

“I am excited. I am excelling, particularly in the Doubles. Over the last two years, I have managed to clinch four ITF titles,” said Courtney in an interview with The Zimbabwean.

The victory, which comes on the back of a successful spell on the continent, makes Courtney and Scheepbouwer the favourites ahead of upcoming ITF tournaments in South Africa and his home country.

He will be playing today at the Gauteng North ITF Junior Championships before traveling to Zimbabwe for the Southern/ Central African Junior Circuit, which is scheduled for Harare next Monday.

“I am really looking forward to playing back home,” Lock said. The promising youngster, who is based at the ITF Centre in Pretoria, is Zimbabwe’s highest ranked player in the Association of Tennis Professionals rankings at 351.
