The women, from ZNA 23 infantry battalion in Magunje, allegedly committed the offense at Cleveland Shooting Range near Chikurubi Prison because the deceased had leaked information to the wife of an army lieutenant (also arrested) that they were having sexual relations with the commissioned officer (Lieutenant).
“The women soldiers, who were camped at the Range for a shooting competition, asked the deceased to accompany them into a nearby bush to fetch firewood, where they attacked her with logs and other hard objects until she died ,” said a highly placed army source.
He said the savage behaviour had angered Commander Defence Forces General Constantine Chiwenga, who ordered the immediate arrest and recovery of military uniforms and other equipment issued to the suspects.
They face either a court martial or a civilian judicial process. Army spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Alphios Makotore could neither confirm nor deny the report and asked for questions by email. He had not responded at the time of going to press.
