Dirty tricks in Dangamvura

The battle for the Dangamvura-Chikanga constituency has reached boiling point with two MDC-T factions accusing each other of playing dirty politics to win voters. Giles Mutsekwa and Arnold Tsunga will both represent the MDC-T in the elections slated for July 31.

Mutsekwa one of the founders of the MDC-T in 1999 is accusing the Tsunga camp of pulling down his (Mutsekwa) posters in Dangamvura.

The Mutsekwa camp last week made a report to the police that led to the arrest of Tsunga’s campaign manager, Sam Chabuka, who appeared before Mutare magistrate Lucy-Ann Mungwari on Wednesday and was granted $100 bail. He was remanded to 25 July.

Mutsekwa said he was the candidate officially chosen by the party to represent Dangamvura-Chikanga constituency.

“The people of Dangamvura-Chikanga constituency ought to know that I am their candidate. There is no parallel candidature because President Tsvangirai has made a ruling that I am the official candidate. Tsunga was told of that position and he accepted. He was also told that he would be deployed elsewhere in the party, but we are surprised that he is defying the party’s directive,” he said.

Analysts say the split will result in the constituency being handed on a plate to Zanu (PF) candidate Mike Duru. Tsunga dispelled the assertion that having two candidates would split the vote.

“No ways, I have enough votes to win and all our votes will also work in favour of President Tsvangirai,” Tsunga said.
