High turnout of women in Kambuzuma

A number of polling stations in Kambuzuma Harare saw a high turnout of women and youths from as early as 6am this morning. Women from all walks of life queued in the early morning cold at various polling stations in the area, despite concerns from CSOs and various women's movement organisations about low participation of women in political affairs.

Wipsu has been running the 'vote for women campaign' since the beginning of the 2013 pre-electoral cycle.

According to Afro-Barometer women's participation in politics in Zimbabwe were relatively low in the previous elections, a move which was attributed to political violence and intimidation.
