The Renewal Team said it had drafted charges against the former Prime Minister and would haul him before a disciplinary hearing on June 18. But Douglas Mwonzora, MDC-T spokesperson, described the charges and threats to drag Tsvangirai before a disciplinary hearing as nonsensical.
The Renewal Team was an independent party separate from MDC-T and could not put Tsvangirai to trial at its kangaroo court he said. “It would be like Zanu (PF) calling Tsvangirai to a disciplinary hearing,” said Mwonzora.
Biti and his colleagues should concentrate on finding a name for their new political project and stop being obsessed by Tsvangirai, he added.
Luke Tamborinyoka, Tsvangirai’s spokesperson said: “Tsvangirai would not be lowered to such levels of appearing before a kangaroo court. He is focused on national issues and has no time for petty things,” said Tamborinyoka.
Tsvangirai is charged for among other allegations, taking a unilateral decision to participate in the July 31, 2013 elections, secretly entering into negotiations with Mugabe for the purchase of the Highlands house without notifying the party and his one man decision to join the GNU.
The former labour unionist is also accused of failing to provide competent leadership to the party among other irregularities.
MDC-T has indicated that it had no time for a group of people that confessed to be conniving with Zanu (PF) and state security agents to depose Tsvangirai.
Analysts have hinted that the saga might spill into the courts.
