MDC-T youth wing launches demand for jobs march

Some 600 MDC-T youths held a peaceful march in Harare today to jointly commemorate the Day of the African Child and step up their demands for jobs from government.

The march started from Town House and ended at the Harare Gardens where several speakers gave solidarity speeches to the youths.

Clifford Hlatshwayo, MDC-T Youth Assembly spokesperson, told The Zimbabwean that they had launched the nationwide petition for jobs promised by the Zanu (PF) government.

“Last year Zanu (PF) lied to the nation that it would create over two million jobs, but instead thousands of workers have since lost employed due to the economic turmoil,” Hlatshwayo said.

Hlatshwayo said the peaceful demand for jobs started with marches in Bulawayo and Chitungwiza over the weekend, followed by Harare.

The marches, Hlatshwayo said, would continue until government fulfilled its obligations to the youths and other citizens.

He said Zanu (PF) was an illegitimate government with no solutions to the country’s problems.

The youth would also demanded affordable education and equal opportunities.

“It hurts to learn that the Day of the African Child is being commemorated while Zimbabwe is in the intensive care unit,” said Hlatshwayo.
