The multi Grammy Award winning group and top Zimbabwean music icon were at the United Rhythms Studios in Durban last week putting the finishing touches to the new song, which will feature on Mtukudzi’s upcoming 63th album titled Abi’angu 2.

“This is a dream come true as I have been longing to collaborate with such an established group since 1970s. Today I can share with my grandchildren about this accomplishment,” Mtukudzi told The Zimbabwean.

Joseph Shabalala, who came out of retirement to lead his group, and Mtukudzi met in 1995 in France. “I had to come out of retirement to make this possible,” Shabalala said.

Another member of Ladysmith Black Mambazo, S’bongiseni Shabalala, said they were busy preparing for a tour of England and Norway. “We did this collaboration with the top Zimbabwean musician because we love and respect his music and this was also a way of honouring our leader,” he said.

Ladysmith feel sorry for their supporters because they didn’t feature this song on their 70th album, which is already out in the USA. But he promised they would feature it in their next album.

The group has collaborated with Dolly Parton, Michael Jackson, Steve Wonder, Desiree, Paul Simon and many more.
