They pipped Goromonzi on bucholtz to walk away with a floating shield. They drew their final match against Goromonzi in the fourth and final round. The tourney was scheduled to have 5 rounds but could not be finished because it kicked off late. The tourney favorites Glen Norah Knights were handed a 2,5-1,5 defeat by Mabvuku A in the first round of the tourney.
Goromonzi dismissed Harare High A 3-1 in the first round, while Prince Edward dismissed St. Ignatius with the same score. Mabvuku B drew 2 all with Churchill A surprising the bulldogs in the second round.
Mabvuku A team then fell prey to Prince Edward in the third round when they narrowly lost 2,5-1,5 in a tightly contested fixture. The games had drawn but however Rufaro Ncube missed a moved under time pressure to give Prince Edward a win.
Alpha Chaendera battled it out with Brian Shokoni in a game that was ever changing. At one time he had gained a pawn, but he left it for the safety of the King since it was in the center of the board, that is Brian Shokoni. Then Alpha missed a winning combination with Brian's King pinned. They eventually drew their game. Solomon Chimuzura dismissed Fushayi on board 3 in a pulsating game.Anesu Gwezere of Goromonzi was the best player on board one after dismissing Lawrence Tavagwisa of Prince Edward school.
Jemba Jemusse was held by Mufakose pupil to a draw. Alpha was the best player on board 2 in the senior division, Panashe Gatsi of Goromonzi was the best player on board 3 with a perfect score so was Solomon Chimuzura of Mabvuku High school. Mupoto of Churchill was the best player on board 4 with a perfect score again. Glen Norah Khights and Mabvuku A were tied on third position. In the junior category Harare High came first followed by Mabvuku High B team and Mufakose 2 High school B team.
The best player on board one was Trevor Macheka of Mabvuku High school, Phillip Jekera of the same school was the best player on board 2. Wayne. T and Pledge . K both of Harare High were best players on boards 3 and 4 respectively.
The tourney was run by Victor Chimbamu assisted by Mr. C. Bepe of Prince Edward school.
Meanwhile HASCA will host a double round chess fixtures at Prince Edward school on 28 June. Games start at 8 am. Gokomere chess festival will roar to life at the same date and fireworks and eruptions are expected.
