Members from all 26 districts met here last weekend and disbanded the provincial executive, replacing it with the new management committee. Members include the Mayor of Mutare – Tatenda Nhamarare, Misheck Kagurabadza, David Chimhini, Webber Chinyadza, Trevor Saruwaka, and Willard Chimbetete.
Former provincial organising secretary Prosper Mutseyami and chairperson Senator Keresencia Chabuka have been booted out for joining the Renewal Team.
Speaking on the side-lines of the meeting, national executive member Giles Mutsekwa said : “We have been fighting for our property that had been grabbed by the Renewal Team, but some of our leaders never joined us in the property battle. It was a clear sign that they do not belong to us and by that alone they showed us their true colours.”
“We cannot continue wining and dining with the enemy. Almost all provincial members had deserted the party save for Kagurabadza and we are out to restore order in the province. As members of the national executive we are fully behind the new management committee,” he said.
As the leadership circus continued, eight MDC-T Manicaland Youth Assembly members last week deserted the Tsvangirai camp and joined the Renewal Team, citing the use of organised intra-party violence and the imposition of party candidates among a litany of reasons.
In an interview last week the provincial youth chairman Denis Simango said the youth assembly was exercising its constitutional and democratic right to dissociate themselves from Tsvangirai’s party. The breakaway members also surrendered the MDC-T party regalia, saying they were now taking a different path.
Those who crossed the floor are Dennis Simango (provincial chairman), Maxwell Mudhluri (deputy chair), Naome Baison (deputy secretary), Yeukai Mutangadura (treasurer), Amen Bungu (organising secretary), Cloud Nengomasha (deputy organising secretary), Muriel Rumhungwe (national representative) and Laston Julius (national representative).
