“Chigova is one player I have been longing to have at United after his impressive performance during the CHAN tournament in January,” said Johnson. “I really appreciate that management gave me my greatest bonus ever by signing the Zimbabwean acrobatic goalkeeper. Chigova does not need much fitness tests, as he played regularly for his former club, Dynamos while here we were on holiday here. Without a doubt he is a top class-goalkeeper and has represented his country on numerous occasions.”
The former Dynamos goal minder has a huge task ahead of him, as he should be in his best form to become United’s first choice goalkeeper, a position held by Ronwen Williams for the past two seasons.
Chigova signed a three year contract with the Pretoria side and has joins another former Dynamos player, Kaitano Tembo, who is now the club’s Under-19 coach.
Chigova joined Matsatsantsa after an impressive display at the CHAN tournament in South Africa in January, where he was first choice goalkeeper as the Warriors reached the semi-finals for the first time, saving penalties in their eventual loss to Libya.
He also won two consecutive league titles with Dynamos. After a few years in South Africa, Chigova is looking forward to a future abroad and probably in Europe and in particular in the Barclays English Premier League.
He was back in Zimbabwe recently, awaiting progress on his work permit, which could be out before the start of the new Absa Premiership season next month.
