PSL roundup with Brenna Matendere

How Mine’s towering striker Kuda Musharu stands a chance of scooping the prestigious golden boot award. He only needs to score during his side’s ultimate clash with Dynamos.

The Gweru-born forward raised his goal tally to 12 and is now at par with beleaguered Highlanders striker Charles Sibanda. Musharu was on target when Chikurupati dispatched struggling Bulawayo outfit, Bantu Rovers, 3-1 on Sunday, converting a penalty.

Throughout the season, the forward helped the Metalion Gold- sponsored side to crucial victories and stands a chance of also being named one of the country’s best 11 players for 2014.

He joined How Mine from Monomotapa early this season and his pedigree was to be quickly realised, as he hit the ground running. Since the weekend of February 7-9, when How Mine played hosts to Chuoni of Zanzibar in the Caf Confederations Cup preliminary round, he has hardly missed the admiring eye.

However, it would be his sweetest season should he manage to grab the top goal scorer accolade and prove he was not the reason why Monomotapa was relegated.

The match against DeMbare, though crucial in that the Glamour Boys will be looking for a clean win that could see them being crowned fourth straight champions in the event Caps United beat on-fire ZPC Kariba, could be easy for Musharu.

DeMbare will be under pressure and if stakes are to go by, what transpired when the champions fell to ZPC Kariba, the Harare giants will be ultra-offensive and thus vulnerable at the back.

On the other hand, How Mine will be playing to enjoy as they have already achieved their target of escaping relegation. On 40 points, the gold miners have also acquired the ticket to play in next year’s Net One Super 8 knockout tournament.

More interestingly, it is unlikely that Bosso’s Sibanda can rise from the shadows and score against Chapungu, even if coaches give him the game time considering his dip in form and lack of mental fitness arising from his string of indiscipline cases.

In essence, the golden boot accolade is now for Musharu to lose rather than for Sibanda to win.
