Addressing people last week at a Family of God church function Bhasikiti, who is believed to be strong sympathiser of vice president Joice Mujuru, said that the GNU had worked very well to improve the lives of most Zimbabweans, whereas the current government was focusing only on infighting.

“We went for elections and we won as Zanu (PF) but we are failing to deliver because the fights in the party have become so vicious that no one is focusing on the economy,” he said.

“We are having more disagreements as one party than we had when we were in the inclusive government. In fact the inclusive government did much better than we are doing.”

The GNU comprised President Robert Mugabe’s Zanu (PF), former Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai’s MDC-T and the MDC led by Welshman Ncube.

Bhasikiti called on Zimbabweans to continue praying for peace and unity in order for the country to develop. He called on people to respect each other and heavily criticised some of the language used in Zanu (PF) factional fights.

MDC-T youths have on several occasions clashed with riot police as they demonstrate demanding jobs that were promised by Mugabe during the run up to the 2013 polls. Economist have warned that the country’s economy could slide back to the 2008 level where inflation rose to over one million percent if president Mugabe does not urgently change his economic policies.
