Last season, Nkhatha was booed for missing a number of what seemed like clear-cut chances that saw the Amakhosi resultantly lose the league championship to Mamelodi Sundowns. That prompted the coach to make public statements either defending or encouraging the striker, who responded by scoring a number of important goals.
Over weekend, Nkhatha was targeted again by some Amakhosi fans in the club’s 1-0 win over Chippa United in Polokwane and Baxter fell short of announcing that he would quit the club if that continued.
"I am very tired of it. Do I want to continue pushing at a club where you don't know if your best players are going to be depressed because of it?" said Baxter. "Maybe the decision is I don't want to be. I do not want even to talk about what happened at Peter Mokaba Stadium because of the issue. I believe the club's management should intervene to stop this nonsense."
Last season, Chiefs’ Number One supporter, Machaka Masilo, also appealed to his fellow Amakhosi faithful to support the club and not boo Nkhatha.
