He warned all MPs against sympathising with or associating with Mujuru at a recent gathering to drum up support for VP Emmerson Mnangagwa’s wife, Auxillia, who is campaigning to take over the parliamentary seat left vacant by her husband when he was elevated into the presidium. The controversial Chirumanzu-Zibagwe by-election is set for March 27.
“We will never tolerate anyone who sympathises with Gamatox (Mujuru’s camp). Let it be known that all those who continue to act as such shall be fired from all posts they occupy in Zanu (PF),” said Kasukuwere.
“People should know that Zanu (PF) is the strongest party that is made up of iron. Anyone chased away from the party can never win against it. Even if you feel you are popular and decide to stand as an independent candidate against us, you will be fooling yourself. So what we are saying is that our MPs should behave in proper ways and stop sympathising with Gamatox because they will follow the route of Themba Mliswa and Didymus Mutasa, whom we have fired,” said Kasukuwere.
His statements are contrary to his earlier directive sent to all provinces that party supporters who were in positions as at the December congress should not be sacked. This was after some provinces had continued to purge Mujuru loyalists after congress.
In the Chirumanzu-Zibagwe by election race, Auxillia looks set to romp to "victory" following the pulling out of MDC formations from the contest on the basis that there were no electoral reforms put in place to ensure a free and fair poll outcome.
