Zimbabwe Bodybuilding and Fitness President, Kenny Murungweni, said some of the country’s top bodybuilders would be sent to schools to raise awareness for the sport and encourage participation. He said the aim of the competition was to identify young bodybuilders and give them the platform to compete at a higher level.
“This is more like a talent identification process and a way of introducing the sport in schools. We want bodybuilding to be as popular in schools as soccer is,” said Murungweni, who expressed hope that the initiative would attract huge female participation.
“We have noted a huge decline in female participation in bodybuilding and hope that by taking the sport to schools, more girls will become interested,” he said.
