Many prominent human rights activists have been abducted and tortured in the past and the Government has not been held accountable. The abduction of Dzamara is a direct violation of the Constitution which guarantees freedom from torture or cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment.
While details of his whereabouts remain unknown, Heal Zimbabwe expresses dismay at the lack of swift response from the police and relevant authorities who should be there to protect citizens against abductions and human rights violations.
Heal Zimbabwe calls for the immediate release of Dzamara unhurt and implores the Government to abide by the constitution which is explicit on the rights of citizens.
