With local football desperate for the emergence of quality players capable of rivalling any from other parts of the continent, the season could throw up more than a few interesting prospects.

Highlanders new forward Thomas Chidewu, 19, is fast establishing himself as the key striker at the Bulawayo giants, while How Mine coach Luke Masomere has been effusive in his praise of new-boy Arnold Muganyi, an 18-year-old signed from Bulawayo Division 2 side FC LG Vultures.

“He has a lot of potential and I believe he has a great future in football if he remains humble and is willing to learn,” Masomere told the Bulawayo media last week. Caps United coach Mark Harrison meanwhile is also convinced his side posses a germ in 17-year-old Blessing Nyamuzihwa, who was introduced in the second-half in the team’s 2-1 defeat to Dynamos on Sunday.

“He is a 17-year-old boy and has some fine talents. …He is the future of Caps United,” Harrison told the press after the match.

Not to be outdone, Harare City are also looking to play their part in introducing some potential future stars with former Chemhanza High School students Tatenda Munditi and Tatenda Tumba in their fold.

Nineteen-year-old goalkeeper Munditi had a highly fruitful season at Mutare City last year, but he faces a tough challenge to win the number one jersey at his new station, with the experienced Dube expected to start off as first choice.

Champions Dynamos for their part have snatched up their own ‘bright prospect’ in Zimbabwe Under-17 forward Thomas Kadyaridzire, while FC Platinum will hope that former How Mine star Emmanuel Mandiranga, 19, will continue his development.

Chicken Inn are also looking to an array of junior products to give them the much needed base with left-back Design Lunga and midfielder George Majika now in their second season in the top-flight.
