The Pretoria University goalkeeper began to wear the gloves, with the logo “DCF Cleo gloves”, early last month. DCF stands for DJ Cleo Foundation.
The former Dynamos and Highlanders shot stopper told The Zimbabwean early this week he felt honoured on being the first goalkeeper in the Absa Premiership to wear the new hot brand in official games.
“I met DJ Cleo in Pretoria some time ago and we became good friends, but I had not expected him to design his own brand of gloves, let alone give me such an honour,” said Arubi. “I am proud of being the first ambassador for this brand and I hope more and more PSL goalkeepers will soon be donning them because they are quality. I find the gloves to be very comfortable and providing both a good grip on the ball and better protection for the hands and fingers.”
He said they were of good quality like, not far from the Adidas brand that he previously used. “We are still in talks on a possible long-term engagement, but I would love to continue wearing this brand for as long I’m still active in soccer.”
DJ Cleo had unsuccessful trials last year, as he bid to swap his successful music career for professional soccer as a goalkeeper in trials with Bidvest Wits, AmaTuks and Moroka Swallows.
