Makepekepe were humiliated by rejuvenated Triangle, who thrashed them
4-0 at the Gibbo Stadium last week for their biggest defeat so far this season.
Earlier on, the Green Machine – ironically owned by PSL chairman Twine Phiri, had boycotted a match against How Mine, after their players protested over non-payment of salaries and signing-on fees.
This resulted in the PSL awarding a 3-0 scoreline in favour of the Luke Masomere-coached side, followed by a $1,200 fine on United for bringing the football fraternity into disrepute.
On the latest log standings, Caps are a distant eighth with seven points in five outings, having lost two full sets of points twice, won twice and drawn once. The scenario does not therefore, reflect well for a team hoping to rediscover itself and end a drought spell of the league championship.
Their coach – Mark Harrison was, however, still hopeful that the team would soon turn on the power.
“It is too early to despair and we are all still hopeful. We shall, however, take each game as it comes and see how we move forward,” he said.
Former champions Highlanders also have a similar opportunity to regroup and save their faces when they travel to Rusape for a date against debutants Dongo Sawmills.
Bosso fans on the famous Soweto stand over the weekend booed the coach Bongani Mafu, after the hosts had lost 0-1 to visiting Chapungu. It was a clear indication that the loss and the team’s general performance in the league so far had left a lot to be desired. It is, therefore, the Dongo Sawmills match that should mark the turning point for Bosso.
Champions Dynamos, taking part in this weekend’s Uhuru Cup, will come back from that action to meet Harare City, while Chicken Inn and How Mine are scheduled for the first Bulawayo derby.
Wha-Wha will host Norman Mapeza’s FC Platinum, with Flame Lily billed to meet Triangle. Chapungu will be at home to Hwange FC.
