This is a scandal

These pipes have been leaking since Christmas Day. The photo was taken on 26 January, by which the wasted water had formed itself into a well-defined river, parallel to the power lines that mark Mbare's western boundary for about 50m, then along the “road” through the cultivated land under the power lines, to the junction of Muchenje Drive and Madzima Road, then from there along Muchenje till it finds a drain and disappears down that.

Photo0217All that fresh clean water going to waste is a scandal, especially when we are told this is a drought year.
The scandal is worse in that cultivators along the line didn’t think of using it, except for one, diverted part of the flow to his plot when it had been flowing for ten days
Yes, I know they were probably all afraid that anyone using the overflow would beblamed for causing it. That thought might set you on a different line of thought, but all that waste is still a scandal.
Ask the many who have to use wells with hand pumps in town because they never get municipal water or, when they do, it is either green or brown in colour and stinks.
