St Mary’s MP Job Sikhala arrested

job_sikhalaHARARE - The Member of Parliament for St Mary's Job Sikhala and eight others including a 13-year-old boy were last week arrested by police in Chitungwaza during the local government by-elections and were detained at Makoni police station.

We have been informed by Dr Shakespear Maya, who witnessed the incident, that the arrests were instigated by some overzealous police officers who accused the MDC team of canvassing for support from the residents when it was in fact the Zanu (PF) political “gurus” that included Emmerson Mnangagwa, Ignatius Chombo, Chris Chigumba and many others who were playing their Zanu (PF) hit song ” Norah” within the 100-metre radius of some polling stations as they moved around during the polls. A number of MDC youths were rounded up by the police and were made to lie on the tarmac and were severely assaulted. “We condemn in strongest terms the unprofessional conduct of some police officers and call upon those who still cherish maintaining the good reputation of the force to act professionally in the execution of their duties and to refrain from taking a partisan position. We remind the few misguided elements within the force that the police force is a national institution, funded from the taxpayers’ money and its primary function is to protect the interests of all citizens and not those who subscribe to Zanu (PF) thinking only,” said Paul Themba Nyathi, Secretary for Information and Publicity, Pro-Senate group.
