HARARE – The MDC women’s assembly has expressed disappointment that the MDC remains “gender blind as there are no policy pronouncements to ensure the meaningful participation of women”.

Office bearers in the women’s national committee are as follows: Lucia Matibenga – chair, Enna Chitsa – vice-chair, Evelyn Masaiti – secretary, Lucis Masekesa – organising secretary, Georgina Chidzingwa – treasurer, Sibusisiwe Masara Bhuda – Information.

“Even though they lost the election, the votes garnered by Getrude Mtombeni and Sekai Holland were around 1,900 and 1,800 respectively while Pauline Gwanyanya secured over 500 votes,” said Matibenga.

She said women faced constraints in waging their campaigns around the country prior to the congress.

“The Women’s Assembly has already begun preparations for a Women’s Empowerment project to equip women to participate effectively in future,” added Matibenga. – Own correspondent.
