Community radio stations launched

Themba Sibunde was elected the chairperson for Radio Kwelaz while Howard Masaninga was elected secretary-general. In Gweru, the residents elected Stambuli Kim as chairperson and Munyaradzi Makoni as the vice chairperson.
The community radio initiatives will enable the respective communities to di

scuss socio-economic and political issues through relevant radio programmes designed to address issues of concern. The Broadcasting Services Act allows for the setting up of community radio stations in Zimbabwe.
Committees for the community radios comprise a chairperson, vice chairperson, secretary general, finance secretary, gender secretary, disabilities secretary, community liaison secretaries and an HIV/AIDS secretary.
Committee members will also spearhead the publicity and advocacy campaigns for the community radio initiatives and lobby parliament, government and the Broadcasting Authority of Zimbabwe (BAZ) to be granted community radio broadcasting licenses. – MISA
