Zhou dies after three years of penury

HARARE - James Zhou, a prominent MDC supporter, died three weeks ago in Mberengwa after three years of suffering from injuries sustained when he and his brother were abducted and assaulted by Zanu (PF) thugs led by notorious war veteran, Biggie Chitoro.
James's brother, Fainos Kufazvinei Zhou,

was murdered during the abduction and brutal attacks, which received prominent media coverage in the pre-election violence in the run-up to the 2000 parliamentary elections. The two were kidnapped and taken to Texas farm near Mnene hospital where Chitoro and his gang brutally assaulted them for supporting the MDC.
Zhou, aged 44, was laid to rest on 28 June in Masaga village in chief Mposi’s area in Mberengwa West. He is survived by his wife Kulelapi and two children, Richard and Ratidzo. He had become the custodian of his late brother’s children, Alice and Alford.
“James’ death shows that the legacy of Zanu (PF)’s culture of violence still lives on, leaving permanent scars on women and children who have been widowed and orphaned by these merchants of violence,”said MDC spokesman Nelson Chamisa this week.
“The MDC believes in the sanctity of human life. Our roadmap is aimed at creating a just and free society, with a period of national healing, reconstruction and stabilization in a post-Mugabe era.” – Staff reporter
