MDC strengthens rural roots

HARARE - In the lead-up to rural council elections throughout the country, the MDC leadership will this weekend address several rallies in rural constituencies in Matabeleland, Mashonaland Central and West and Manicaland, according to party spokesman Nelson Chamisa.

ve ground work to develop grassroots support in rural areas, formerly the Zanu (PF) stronghold.
The party’s president, Morgan Tsvangirai, accompanied by vice-president Thoko Khupe, national chairman Issac Matongo, his deputy Lovemore Moyo and the national youth chairman Tamsanga Mahlangu will speak at Mahole and Avoca shopping centres in Matobo constituency on Saturday and at Dwalani and Malaba on Sunday.
Early next week the team will visit Gulati Centre and Shangani Business Centre in Insiza.
National executive members, together with the provincial leadership in Mashonaland West will address a rally on Sunday at Sampakaruma near Kariba, while leaders in Mash Central will be in Shamva. Secretary general Tendai Biti will tour Makoni West, Nyanga and Nyatate. – Staff reporter
