Bread price soars

HARARE - The price of bread has increased dramatically in Zimbabwe, worsening hardships for the poorest in society.
While the government last month set the price of bread at Z$200 per loaf, it is now selling for at least $350 a loaf.
More sophisticated varieties of bread are selling for betwe

en $400 and $500 per loaf.
“We have received reports of bread going up to $350. What we understand is that the price of bread is controlled and it is illegal for bakeries to increase prices,” Rosemary Siyachitema of the Consumer Council of Zimbabwe (CCZ) said. – Own correspondent
