Mass protests to go ahead

HARARE - The ruthless clampdown by Mugabe's state-sponsored thugs in police uniform on last week's ZCTU demo has strengthened the MDC's resolve to forge ahead with mass protests.
The party's president, Morgan Tsvangirai, warned this week that no intimidation of opposition leaders would triumph ov

er the will of the people.
The opposition leader said MDC mass protests were going ahead as planned and his party believed the resolution to Zimbabwe’s political stalemate could only be found through a sustained mass resistance project.
“There has been a serious congress resolution about popular resistance,” Tsvangirai told The Zimbabwean. “As a project of the party, it has no timeframe; it is a project that is already being implemented in various forms,” he said in apparent reference to his landmark march on Parliament a fortnight ago.
He said a struggle could not be measured by events. “A struggle has to be measured by the outcome. And the outcome is a democratic dispensation in the country.” – Gift Phiri
