MDC unity NOT on cards

HARARE - The Mutambara-led MDC has denied taking part in reunification talks, but says it is not opposed to any talks aimed at bringing about the re-unification of all democratic forces.
"We emphasize that such discussions must be based on the founding principles and values of the MDC," said the

party’s spokesperson, Gabriel Chaibva, in a recent statement.
These principles and values are: (1) Outright rejection, in word and deed, of violence as a tool for political organization, (2) Respect for the party constitution and collective decision making processes (3) Respect for all elected organs of the party (4) Equality of all Zimbabweans regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, and class.(5) Acceptance of culpability for the events of October 12 2005 (6) Prioritization of the national interest over personal interests.
“There was a process underway to establish mutual respect and recognition between the two MDC formations. This was the starting point for establishing a framework of working together. The Tsvangirai grouping abandoned this process midway,” said Chaibva.
He expressed disappointment that the Tsvangirai-led MDC had not communicated directly with his party, and suggested that the press reports on unifications were
“no more than a public relations exercise designed to hoodwink the nation into believing that they are genuinely interested in reunification when their conduct towards other democratic forces suggests arrogance and disdain”.
He said his party had no interest in a “process of reintegration”. – Staff reporter
