Zim students flood USA

HARARE - More than 500 high school students attended a college fair hosted by the U.S. embassy in Harare last week where students had a one-on-one with admission officers from 10 colleges and universities in the US.

iscuss entry requirements and other academic prospects available in the US.
“It is a confidence booster to prospective students in Zimbabwe to know that despite the economic hardships Zimbabwe faces, top American universities are still interested in visiting Zimbabwe and are happy to enroll students from the country,” Rebecca Zeigler Mano, the embassy educational advisor, said. She said over 450 students received student visas over the past year alone.
According to the Institute of International Education, there were 1,699 Zimbabweans studying at colleges and universities in the US between 2004 and 2005.
Zimbabwe has surpassed South Africa to become the fourth largest student sending country in Africa to the US. Only Kenya, Nigeria and Ghana continue to send more students to study in the US. – Own correspondent
