Farewell to Jazz musician

HARARE - Deverangwena Jazz Band drummer, Patrick Kabanda has died.
Kabanda was 61 years old when he passed away in Vendaland, South Africa last month. Kabanda is survived by wife and three children.
The late drummer started his musical career in 1968 at a tender age in Mutare where he playe


d alongside Fungai Malinga, Farai Mundondo and many other established musicians such as Thomas Mapfumo.
Before joining Deverangwena Jazz Band, Kabanda was a drummer at Hallelujah Chicken Run and played with some football greats such as Tendai Chieza, Lovemore Nyabeze and Joshua Hlomayi.
Kabanda later joined Deverangwena Jazz Band in Chitungwiza in the early 1980s replacing Edmore Masunda.
The late Kabanda was later employed as a bar man in Mashava, some 40 kilometres west of Masvingo, where he worked with Jonah Moyo, who is now the band leader. -CAJ News
