MDC launches a surprise demo in Bulawayo (1-02-07)

The MDC mounted a surprise demonstration against the government of
RobertMugabe today in the City of Bulawayo. Several hundred demonstrators
drawnfrom the various districts in the City were involved in the
demonstration,which lasted for an hour and allowed the people to show their
displeasure atpresent conditions in the country. Vehicles passing the demonstrators
hooted their support for the people.

The demonstrators held placards and a banner that called for a new
constitution and for elections in 2008. They also sang songs as they
marched in the City Center. The Police were taken by surprise and when they
eventually arrived in various vehicles the people simply disbursed and
did not seek a confrontation.

Photographs of the demonstration have been taken and will be
distributed by these means later today.
