Rape report blames pastors(01-02-07)

HARARE - Pastors, especially in the Apostolic Religious Sect (Mapostori), have been named among those responsible for more than 20 percent of child rape cases.
The chilling statistics are a result of a study by the Child and Law Project, conducted between 2005 and December 2006.
It established

that pastors or church elders lured their victims to secluded places under the pretext that they were going to pray for them or administer treatment, and later raped them. Several pastors have appeared in the courts and some have been convicted and jailed. Recent high-profile cases involve the trial and subsequent jailing of religious sect leader Madzibaba Nzira, and that of Obadiah Musindo, who repeatedly raped his maid. – Own correspondent
