Zanu (PF) plots MDC disharmony

CHIREDZI - Observers believe Zanu (PF) is behind the violence and intimidation of opposition supporters in Chiredzi South, and is plotting to cause disharmony between factions of the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) ahead of the weekend by-election.
The opposition faction led by Arthur

Mutambara last week blamed the Morgan Tsvangirai-led MDC for defacing posters for its candidate, Nehemiah Samuel Zanamwe. A report compiled by deputy secretary general, Priscilla Misihairabwi alleged that the anti-senate faction candidate, Emmaculate Makondo, and her supporters were engaged in the dirty tactics.
Spokesman for the pro-senate faction, Gabriel Chaibva, said it was likely that the ruling party was using the dirty tactics. “Our leadership went to assess the situation on the ground at the weekend and Zanu (PF) is trying to use its usual tricks of intimidating people and using the army to buy loyalty by distributing grain,” he said. “It is likely that Zanu (PF) is responsible for defacing our posters and preventing our candidate from campaigning although reports we got implicated Tsvangirai’s people.”
Spokesman of the anti-senate faction, Nelson Chamisa said the Mutambara faction was falling for the Zanu (PF) plot. “The party that has an inherent culture of violence and dirty tactics is Zanu (PF) and it is responsible for the intimidation of our candidate as well as the one for this faction (Mutambara’s),” Chamisa said.
Zanu (PF) was this week expected to deploy Vice Presidents Joyce Mujuru and Joseph Msika to Chiredzi South to hold star rallies and campaign for Callisto Gwanetsa, the ruling party candidate in the Saturday polls.
