The first edition of Poetry Slam - 'Echoes from the Caves' - comes to Chinhoyi on Saturday as organizers Thulani and Black Heat embark on the outreach programme, supported by Pamberi Trust.
Their optimism and passion for poetry has seen the House of Hunger Poetry Slam assist poets

from Bulawayo, led by Brain Mkabeta and Tswa, to establish and strengthen their own Poetry Slam, affectionately known as Mlomo wako (your mouth) Poetry Slam. They meet every second Saturday of the month to recite poetry and express their fears, challenges, successes and struggles.
In Masvingo local poets continue to organize themselves with the support and assistance of the House of Hunger Poetry Slam. Drawing inspiration from the Great Zimbabwe Monuments, the Spirit of Great Zimbabwe group is in the able hands of Tatenda Chinoda and Tapfuma Jongwe.
Poetry lovers are in for a serious treat, with the talented poets delivering deep soulful poetry as well as comic lovestruck lyrics in all languages. Black Phar I from Bulawayo, Black Heat with her well-coined love lyrics and Tatenda Chinoda with his deep Shona from Masvingo will demonstrate the beauty of our indigenous languages. Not to be outdone will be the evergreen Shoes Lambada, Outspoken, My Brothaz Keeper, Kadijah, and the soft-spoken Mutumwapavi. – Own correspondent
