Elephants destroy wheat

BEITBRIDGE
A herd of hungry elephants recently devoured an estimated 40 hectares of winter wheat at an irrigation scheme, 130km west of here.
Beitbridge senator - Tambudzai Mohadi - confirmed the incident and projected a bleak future for the people who depended solely on the irrigation scheme

for survival.
She disclosed that school children were also not attending classes due to fear of being attacked by the jumbos, who are notorious for their short temper.
“People are living in fear. The jumbos are really a threat to the crops and to our lives,” Mohadi said.
The Wildlife Management Authority has since been called to help curb the problem.
