GMB donates Z$100 m to Zanu (PF)

BINDURA
At a time when the country faces acute shortages in grain reserves, the Grain Marketing Board (GMB) has baffled the nation by donating Z$100 million towards the construction of a Zanu (PF) provincial office in Bindura.
The GMB came up with the highest pledge after handing over a Z$100

million cheque to the ruling party during a fundraising dinner dance recently held in the town.
More than Z$500 million was raised by the party, which intends to build a block of 23 offices and a conference room for 250 people.
Ephraim Masawi, who is the fundraising committee chairman, said tha party had also received building materials enough to put up the structure.
However, it is the donation from GMB that has confirmed the widely held belief that the parastatal is not concerned about the food security of the nation.
The donation, which critics believe is meant to protect GMB’s blundering top officials from dismissal, comes at a time when the nation requires foreign currency to import maize and wheat so as to bolster its food reserves, which are at their lowest ebb.
