ean delegation, but was informed by clerk of parliament, Austin Zvoma, that parliament refused to release funds for the trip.
This followed the barring of Zanu (PF)’s Forbes Magadu and Godfrey Chipare, the senior officials that were expected to represent the party at the summit, leaving only senator Clarisa Muchengeti to travel with Chamisa.
“Muchengeti is very junior and would not have managed to do the job of defending the excesses of the Mugabe regime at the summit,” said a source. Zimbabwe and Dafur are the two African countries that were top on the agenda of the summit due to the intensifying political crises in the two countries.
Chamisa this week said: “I am not on the sanctions list and I don’t understand why I am not going to Germany to represent my beloved country on matters of paramount importance and national interest. I received a memo informing me that the trip had been cancelled, but I already had my visa.”
Zimbabwe has become a rogue state due to human rights and political abuses by President Robert Mugabe and his Zanu (PF) party wanting to cling onto power, despite an unprecedented economic recession that has reduced most Zimbabweans to penury.
