Michael Gahler MEP astonished at Zimbabwe's hesitation to send delegation to ACP-EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly

20.6.07 - Michael Gahler MEP, First Vice-President of the ACP-EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly (JPA), has expressed his astonishment with regard to the Zimbabwean Pa


rliament’s hesitation in sending a delegation to the Assembly’s meeting in Wiesbaden , Germany , next week.


Gahler declared in Strasbourg today in the margins of the European Parliament session:


“I am surprised to learn of the hesitation of the Zimbabwean Parliament to send a delegation to our ACP-EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly in Wiesbaden next week.


“As First Vice-Chairman of the European Parliament delegation in the Joint Parliamentary Assembly, representing the EU-side, I want to underline that we have an interest in working with colleagues from Zimbabwe in Wiesbaden next week. I am certain that the same is true for ACP colleagues, who will meet in the ACP Parliamentary Assembly in Wiesbaden from this Wednesday.


“I have been assured of the cooperation of German authorities in this respect. They have not received formal visa applications to date – contrary to media reports.”


The African Caribbean Pacific – European Union Joint Parliamentary Assembly (ACP-EU JPA) takes place in Wiesbaden Germany from Wednesday 20 June to Thursday 28 June.
