week declined again to comment on the matter and merely said “phone the AG’s office” whilst efforts to contact Gula Ndebele failed.
But officials at the AG’s office confirmed that he had reported for duty on Monday. “He is back at work, he started today, that’s all I can say,” a secretary said from the office.
Government sources said Gula Ndebele reported for duty because of the expiry of the period he had been given by Chinamasa to be on leave and not necessarily that the stand-off has been resolved. “He (Gula Ndebele) has remained defiant and there is no way he is going to remain in that position. He has returned to work because his forced leave if over. A new AG will be appointed soon,” a source said.
