the CSC has been left to die and needs a lot of capital injection in order to manage the task of processing meat requirements for the whole country.
Industry and International Trade Minister, Obert Mpofu, who announced the move to “nationalize” meat processing a fortnight ago, is in a difficult situation after it emerged that the CSC needed to be raised from the dead.
mpofu confirmed the tricky situation. “We are having to work hard to revive and raise the standards at CSC but once we manage to do that, we would have solved the problem that was caused by private abattoirs who were holding the nation to ransom,” he said.
Sources in government said that government might have to reverse the decision or have a situation whereby private operators get sub-contracted by the CSC to provide slaughtering and meat processing services. – Own correspondent
