Gono to quit?

HARARE
. "I am not confirming nor denying anything," Gono said when asked about reports that he had offered his resignation but been turned down by Mugabe.
He did confirm having "met the president over the cur

rent situation”.
Gono is understood to be opposed to the unleashing of state security agents and Zanu (PF) militia to enforce price reductions.
“He is in serious trouble because the people pushing for his ouster are very close to Mugabe, and these include Elliot Manyika and Didymus Mutasa,” a senior source said. “He held an emergency meeting with Mugabe last week and said he wanted to resign but was obviously told to go back to work. To make matters worse for him, Mugabe proceeded on the same day (Friday) to hold a party meeting at which the war against prices was endorsed.”
A senior RBZ source said Gono has of late been in and out of the office with rumours suggesting he hinted the possibility of just leaving the country and quitting the chaos.
Gono reportedly wrote to government lambasting the price war, which he said would not reduce inflation but cause acute shortages of goods on the market, and thus worsen hyperinflation.
But he has been labelled a saboteur by some sections within the ruling party and government top structures. – Marcus Mushonga
