Spokesman of the MDC Tsvangirai, Nelson Chamisa told CAJ News that the former trade unionists will visit politically volatile high density suburbs such as Highfield, Glen View and Budiriro.
“The president will tour shops and supermarkets in order to assess the situation on the ground whilst also meeting with the people and sharing with them in the difficult situation,” Chamisa said.
“He will be accompanied by several senior members of the party and the people will have an opportunity to meet the leadership and communicate directly.”
Tsvangirai’s tour of the shops and supermarkets follows his surprise visit to Harare’s Dzivarasekwa
suburb in April to console families that had lost relatives in a commuter omnibus accident with a train, which received international coverage. Images of the opposition leader sharing with the poor people in their shanty dwellings were beamed across the whole world.
Consumers are grappling with serious shortages of goods and commodities as shops and supermarket are empty following massive looting at the behest of government implementing a destructive crackdown on manufacturers, wholesalers and retailers it accuses of pushing for regime change through price increases.
