Zanu (PF) suspends Makoni

MUTARE - The ruling Zanu (PF) Manicaland provincial executive and Politburo members, the party's supreme decision making body met here at the weekend met and agreed to suspend former finance minister Simba Makoni from the party.

ws his utterances at a World Economic Forum in Cape Town, South Africa two weeks ago to the effect that President Robert Mugabe would leave office before the end of the year.
Makoni was not immediately available for a comment.
Manicaland provincial spokesperson Kenneth Saruchera played down the issue of Makoni having been discussed at the stormy meeting.
“The meeting had nothing to do with the Makoni issue. It was merely a meeting of Politburo member from Manicaland where we discussed among other issues the current price controls and the restructuring of our cells and branches in the province.”
But party insiders insisted Makoni’s case was on the agenda as many party heavyweights were baying for his blood.
Zanu (PF) officials suspected of heading up the plan to elbow Makoni out include Didymus Mutasa, Nicholas Goche, Elliot Manyika, Oppah Muchinguri and Saviour Kasukuwere. – Sydney Saize
