100 operators arrested


BULAWAYO - A transport crisis has hit the southern region of Zimbabwe as
operators withdraw services to protest the arrest of more than 100 commuter
omnibuses crews for allegedly defying a government directive to slash their
fares.
A government unit drawn from all its security age

ncies has descended on the
transport operators in Bulawayo, forcing them to slash their fares from Z$50
000 to $15 000.
Acting Officer Commanding Traffic in the Southern Region, Superintendent
Wonder Mavhudzi, confirmed that police had by Saturday afternoon arrested
over 100 transport operators. – CAJ News
