CHRA requests ban

AMBASSADORS have responded to the request by the Combined Harare Residents'
Association to place on the list of targeted individuals, all the
commissioners running the City of Harare.
The Association on 10 July wrote to the Ambassadors of the European Union,
the United States, Aus

tralia, New Zealand and Canada, requesting that they
consider placing on the sanctions list, Harare Commissioners Sekesai
Makwavarara (Chairperson), Professor Jameson Kurasha, Sasha Jogi (President
of the Institute of Urban Planners), Alfred Tome (District Administrator in
Harare), Musavaya Reza (Provincial Administrator for Harare), Killian
Mupingo (ZUPCO Board Member, Deputy Secretary in the Ministry of Local
Government, Public Works and Urban Development, responsible for Rural Local
Authorities), Richard Mahachi (architect), Sylvia Masango (a principal
director in the office of Vice President Joyce Mujuru), and Madzudzo
Pawadyira (Civil Protection Unit Director).
In his response, Australian Ambassador Jon Sheppard said he had brought the
proposal “to the attention of the appropriate authorities in Australia”. He
said: “In the meantime, you may be interested to know that Mrs Sekesai
Makwavarara is in fact already on the list of individuals designated under
Australia’s sanctions regime.”
His Greece counterpart, Ambassador Dimitri M. Alexandrakis, said, “Your
letter has been forwarded to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Greece.” –
