Makwavarara still useful – Chombo

HARARE
The Zanu (PF) system of recycling matter is set to continue, with reports that the recently-ousted chairperson of the Harare City Commission, Sekesayi Makwavarara has already been informed about getting either a government post or a diplomatic representative position.
Local government m

inister, Ignatius Chombo, who last week announced the surprise replacement of Makwavarara with Michael Mahachi at Harare’s Town House, told The Zimbabwean this week that “she remains available to serve her country and will be doing that in a different capacity to be known soon”.
Chombo wouldn’t confirm nor deny reports that Makwavarara was likely to be appointed to a position of permanent secretary in one of the ministries or ambassador to one of the countries in Asia.
“She will not be abandoned after she sold out the MDC and bootlicked Chombo and the regime,” a source said. “She will be given another place of comfort soon.”
The sources say the Zanu (PF) regime found her to be unsuitable to contest the capital city’s mayoral elections against MDC’s Elias Mudzuri given that she is very unpopular with the electorate in Harare. Makwavarara, a former MDC member, who got into council in 2002 on the opposition party’s ticket, defected to Zanu (PF) after having been chosen to be the deputy of ousted elected mayor of Harare, Mudzuri.
She was appointed to head the commission after Mudzuri’s illegal ouster in 2004 and has had her tenure repeatedly renewed as the regime continued to ignore calls by residents as well as court rulings for elections to be held in the capital city.- Itai Dzamara
