Manuel distances SA

South Africa's Finance Minister Trevor Manuel recently dismissed any
involvement of an outside country in Zimbabwe's internal affairs both
political and economic.
"Zimbabweans must solve the country's economic and political crisis on their
own and there can be no "regime change

” imposed from abroad,” Manuel told
parliament last week.
Political analysts argue that Manuel’s statements might see Mugabe failing
to receive an economic package he was promised in Zambia as SA insisted that
Zimbabweans should solve own problems alone.
Manuel is one of the influential figures in Thabo Mbeki led government and
if he denies a package for Zimbabwe this could affect the regional
commitment to ending economic meltdown in Zimbabwe.
He did express sympathy for Zimbabweans during the parliamentary debates.
“They are our neighbours, they are of our blood, we share the same language
with many of them,” said Manuel. – Trust Matsilele
