Rubber sector deflates

BULAWAYO - The rubber industry faces collapse as local buyers shun it for
cheaper imported products.
Most local manufacturing companies, especially those in the mining sector,
use rubber in their day-to-day operations.
In an interview with CAJ News at the three-day Mine Entra 2007 (Zim

babwe’s
premier mining, engineering and transport exhibition) that ended on Friday,
Rubber Products and Manufacturers Marketing Executive, Nicholas Mashiri,
said the industry faced collapse due to stiffer competition from cheap
rubber products.
“Mines, especially platinum and asbestos mines, prefer to import rubber
because they say it is cheaper to buy from the foreign companies than us who
would have factored in production costs like importing raw materials yet
there is scarce foreign currency.”

like Malaysia and China. – CAJ News
